Jean-Baptiste Ledoux

Jean-Baptiste Ledoux is a postdoctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) in Porto, Portugal. Fascinated by evolutionary biology and more particularly by recent advances in eco-evolutionary dynamics, he involves his research at the interaction between ecology and evolution. He works mainly with long-lived Mediterranean gorgonian species (Corallium rubrum, Paramuricea clavata and Eunicella spp.) but he also had the opportunity to study other organisms such as copepods (Calanus helgolandicus), sub-Antarctic sea urchins (Abatus cordatus) or Amazonian frogs (Adenomera andreae). During his PhD thesis, he developed an approach combining phylogeny, population genetics and experimental ecology to take part in the conservation biology of the shallow populations of the Mediterranean red coral, Corallium rubrum. His current research topics range from the inferences of demographic processes (dispersal, reproduction) through the study neutral genetic variations to the characterization of population by environment interactions with a particular focus on adaptive processes (local adaptation). Besides, he is currently co-supervising the PhD thesis of Rosana Arizmendi-Mejia with Drs. Cristina Linares and Joaquim Garrabou. This work will shed new lights on the contemporary connectivity and resilience capacity of the red gorgonian Paramuricea clavata in the context of global warming.
